Being Green

We at the Interlochen Motel are working on doing our part for the future of our children and our earth. We take very seriously in conserving our earths’ resources. Since buying the Interlochen Motel in 2005 we have:

  • Replaced all the windows with 1″ I.G. double strength glass and Low E Pro-Solar argon gas windows (ENERGY STAR approved)
  • Replaced all exterior lights with bug repellent Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs are ENERGY STAR approved)
  • As needed replacing all interior lights with Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs are ENERGY STAR approved)
  • Created a recycling program where our Guest Services crew disposes of all glass, plastic, and paper in bins that are set up in the laundry room. These items are taken to the local recycling center only when bins are full.
  • Replaced each and every heater/air conditioning unit in every room with a Trane (PTAC) Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner. These new units use much less energy than the conventional units and operate at a much quieter level. (ENGERY STAR approved)
  • All landscaping lights used are solar.
  • Installed new siding and insulation over block construction. Also blew in insulation in all attics. This will keep the rooms cool in the summer and warm in the winter without using an excessive amount of heat/air conditioning.
  • Converted all of our rooms to smoke and pet free.
  • We replaced a washing machine with a front load King Size Plus capacity Kenmore washing machine. (ENERGY STAR approved)

By doing this we are saving water and energy needed to heat water.

Check back occasionally to see what we do next.

We are also recognized by Environmentallyfriendlyhotels.com for our efforts. Are you doing everything your can for our future?

We are always looking for suggestions on how we can become more “green”. Please feel free to email us with suggestions.
